D.E.A.D I.N L.I.N.E
Death
The end
of life
The
cessation of life
The
permanent of cessation of all vitals bodily functions
The
termination of worldly life and the beginning of afterlife
Death
Is inevitable
Is the
one thing that we can be certain about.
“Every
soul shall have a taste of death; and only on the Day of Judgement shall you be
paid your full recompense” (Quran 3:185)
Dead in
Line –
This
term usually use in medical setting - are the process of informing the family
members of patient regarding serious condition – critical ill, nothing much can
do, only end of life care.
The purpose
of informing them is for the family members to prepare for the worst.
Encounter
many times of this term for cancer patient – usually when they are in late stage
As many
as I seen, every human being have different perceptive or acceptance.
different perception towards death.
For
example,
“Madam
A, elderly ill lady, has been diagnose to have advanced breast cancer with lungs
metastasis –in which she requires oxygen supplement to breath. Her condition
day by day deteriorates. There is nothing much we can offers – no surgical
intervention suitable for her and not for chemo or radiotheraphy as for her
age. This case usually they will issue DIL. They inform to her husband and her
family members that she is in critical ill, nothing much can we do, we can only
offer her end of life care – pain relief, oxygen and make her comfortable,
prolong her time for her family member to say forever goodbye . As for her
husband, he understands his wife’s condition, incurable illness but he wants us to resuscitate her. He is desperately
hoping that a miracle will happen – he not giving up on his wife.”
In other
hand,
Same
situation like Madam A, They issued DIL. They understand but they let the
patient go as the patient already suffered enough with the illness– they didn’t
want to see the patient went through a painful dying experience. They will
inform us for not resuscitate the patient as it can make the patient more
suffer. As they believe all of us will die too, whenever time comes.
Imagine you in that situation, what would you do?
All good thing comes from Allah, and all the bad thing comes from myself
